Hanging with my Peeps

Today we took Izzy to Artomatic for a kids workshop on making peeps dioramas. Izzy had such a good time decorating peeps with feathers, fabric, and googlely eyes. We started our workshop touring the peeps dioramas on the 10th floor for inspiration. Then we went to the education room to create the peeps dioramas. The workshop was fabulous everyone had such a good time and all volunteers were so nice and helpful. I would definitely go to more kids workshops at artomatic. Then we took Izzy to look around. She had fun looking at the art and we found mask making on the fifth floor. Artomatic is very kid friendly.

artomatic 5/17

Today I did my second volunteer shift from 12-5. It was a much better shift than the 9pm -2am shift. It was nice to see all of the children going to the workshops on the 7th floor where you can find the Education Room. There are many workshops available for children during Artomatic on Saturdays. It was such a joy to see the pinatas that the children made when they were leaving Artomatic. Go to www.artomatic.org/kids to get more info on workshops and rsvp for events. I highly recommend bringing your children, nieces, nephews, and/or neighbor's kids to a workshop and then on a tour of Artomatic. Also the Community Drum Circle was a big family favorite. It was so cute seeing all the little ones jamming with their parents on the drums. Its great to see adults get silly with their children on the weekends when they are so seriously working all week. Awesome family activity for a Saturday. On May 31st there is a Peeps workshop for children, we are taking our friend's kid Izzy. Also check out the Peepsomatic on the 10th floor. I think we are taking an artomatic break until the 31st after a full weekend of volunteering. More photos to come after the 31st.
After our shift we walked around and looked at more art. We saw many artists like Anna Nazaretz, my husband really likes her work. He also is a big fan of Chris Bishop and Andrew Wodzianski. I think my husband has a robot fetish. I really liked the artwork of Jeannette L. Herrera. Her Mary and Grace pieces are my favorite. We also enjoyed Coincide:Contemporary Ceramics Sculpture on the 10th floor.

Artomatic 5/16

Tonight was Meet the Artist's night at Artomatic. A great night for networking and talking to people about their art. A lot of people had parties in their spaces. It was also my first volunteer shift 9pm-2am. I usually go to bed at 10pm but the all the earlier shifts were taken. It was a long night in the lobby handing out maps, counting people, and being the alcohol police, but great for people watching. Good thing my husband was there with me to keep me awake. We kinda felt like Walmart greaters. When it got past 1am the ravers were out dancing to the techno on the Electric and Cabaret Stage. Also we saw some guy talking to himself and playing with his echo in the office building lobby. I haven't been out during the witching hour in a long time, but it was entertaining. Today's shift is from 12-5 definitely a more reasonable time for me. I get cranky late at night.

Opening Night at Artomatic

Opening night was fabulous. Lots of wine, lots of party, and lots of friends. We saw so much art and need to go back and look at more. It could take you days to go through and see all of it. We took the elevator up to the 12th floor and started to make are way down via stairs. We only got to the 11th floor before we went down to the Cabaret Stage to see the Gulley Jimson Quartet. They were fun and lots of people were dancing. Then we went to the electric stage to see an awesome show from Demivolt. By then it was after midnight and it was time to go home. Will be back on Friday and Saturday this week to volunteer the 9pm-2am shift. Also another show to see on June 13th at 11pm 302Acid on the Electric Stage.

Last Day to Hang Artomatic

At 8pm Artomatic was busy. Everyone waited until the last minute but it looks great. The transformation since last Wednesday is unbelievable and amazing. I can't wait to see in on Friday night.
We finished hanging my St. Veronica painting. St Veronica is the one who wiped Jesus' face when he was carrying his cross and left his image on her veil. The other religious painting is the Virgin Mary.
We also added a shelf for a guest book so people can write down their emails if they are interested receiving more information about my work and upcoming shows.
My neighbor is a photographer Stu Rieter. His black and white work is great next to all of my color.
After we finished my space we walked around to see other artists and friends throughout the building. On the 10th floor we helped our friend Tisha Myers finish hanging her work. Photographs of her work are in the slideshow above.
The space looks fabulous and everyone's work looks great. I think this will be the best Artomatic yet. See you on Friday!

Networking and Meeting New Artists

Today I found a comment on my blog from another artist participating in artomatic. It was very nice to get positive feedback from other artists. This artist also uses the female as her subject in her art, which is nice to see how other artists see the fiugre. Seeing other artists work is so inspiring for me. Click on the link below to see her work.

I will be including more links to websites of artists that I know and artists that I meet through Artomatic.
