Mel Chin comes to Long Branch
I had the honor of meeting Mel Chin when he came to my school to talk to my fourth grade students about the Fundred Project. It was awesome. My students asked him such great questions about the project. I was so impressed. The students responded well to him. He was so laid back. To learn more about the Fundred Project click on Fundreds
There you can get lesson plans on how to make fundreds and download a template. Students all over the United States are creating Fundreds to help raise awareness and money to address the lead in the soil issue in New Orleans, LA. In Mel Chin's Fundred Project students will have a voice about this issue through their artwork. Children will be part of a national art project.
That evening my husband and I went to the Arlington Arts Center to see Mel Chin talk about his art and introduce the Fundred Project to the arts center. Travis made a Fundred too.
The arts center will be an exhibit site for Fundreds from students in Arlington County Public Schools. The exhibit will start with an opening on April 17th and on Saturday April 18th I will be teaching a workshop on Fundreds at the Arts Center.
