Artomatic is Over!

On Tuesday I did my last volunteer shift for "deinstallation". I am not sure if that is a word? The first hour of my shift I ran around with an orange sharpie and made signs. Then I walked around and assisted people checking out. Uneventful but my calves were killing me the next day after walking around on a concrete floor for 5 hours.
Still not as bad as the 9-2am shift that I did.
Another good thing about this shift is that I got to see artomatic for one last time and saw work that I didn't see the first time.
This was my first Artomatic experience and it was wonderful. I sold a painting for $1000 and a gallery wants to show my work. I purchased two paintings from Jeanette Herrera "Mary" and "Grace". They look fabulous. I also really enjoy the art education workshops and the way Artomatic involved children. I met some wonderful people at Artomatic and I am glad I decided to do it. I got a sense of community by participating in Artomatic.
Not everything was perfect about Artomatic. First of all I don't think Artomatic needs to be open until 2am. Its not a night club it's an art show. And there were some pieces stolen from Artomatic. And I feel for the artists who have had their work taken. I had my own art stolen from a "cafe, gallery, bookstore" about 10 years ago and it is a horrible feeling and there was nothing I could do about it. So like anything we learn from life's experiences and change it the next time around.
I will continue to blog about my art experiences even though Aromatic is over. I have an upcoming show at Touchstone Gallery in July. The opening is on July 11th, 6:30pm. Hope to see you there.
